I'll Be Here in the Morning (Single)

about

Written by Townes Van Zandt.

Jim Henry and I originally recorded this song for one of my dearest high school friends as a Kickstarter Reward. It came out so true that I asked her permission to release it, which she generously granted. Because I wanted to honor my Kickstarter promise to give my friend a "custom" song, I asked Jim Henry to lay down a different electric guitar part for the public release. Now my friend has her version; you have yours. We hope you love it.

I recorded this in March 2020, thinking first of my troubadour pals, for whom the lure of the road is often at odds with stable relationships and family. As Covid-19 became pandemic, my thoughts turned to those poor souls on ventilators and in hospitals, isolated from family and friends, some of them slipping the bonds of this world without a witness.

Home and the road. With and without. Together and lonely. Here and gone. The song rings like a lullaby, like a prayer. Townes is smart though; he doesn't say "forever."

Close your eyes, I'll be here in the morning
Close your eyes, I'll be here for a while.

We put our hearts into this one and hope we did it justice. Drop us a line and let us know what you think. xotg

(L.E. -- thank you/love you.)
