lyrics

hey diddle diddle, the man in the moon
he loved the indian maid
they build a cabin deep in the woods
down in the peppermint glade

one thing led to another until
ten little babies at play
little by little they raised ‘em up singin
hey diddle diddle all day

jack played the trumpets, judy played the spoons
jill turned circles in the air
don wrote a poem, theodore danced
with jenny with the flaxen hair

sarah made a harp that chuckled in the wind
mickey played the fiddle with a bow
then came the twins with dimples on their chins
singin hey diddle diddle-i-o

now young mister rabbit and old mister bear and all of the people of the town
came to the cabin, all joined hands, danced in a circle all around
the tin soldier to the little china doll, would you do a number with me?
and they played along on a bugle and a gong singing hey diddle diddle-i-ee

now many years the later the man in the moon still loves the indian maid
and all of their children, and their children too, come to the peppermint glade
and all of the families and all of the tribes gather together to play
till every critter in the whole wide world sings hey diddle diddle all day
